Two per cent is not a promise that every yard can be completed for that amount. It is a sensible entry point for owners who have invested heavily in the house and need the most important external work handled properly. On a $1 million build, that means beginning with an allowance of around $20,000 and confirming the scope after we inspect or measure the site.
The priority is to create a clean, stable and usable property—not to install every possible feature at once. The landscape can be designed in stages so the essential work happens first and future improvements fit the same plan.

$50,000–$80,000: broader planting, paths or paving, irrigation, drainage, fencing and small retaining work.

Landscaping is practical—not just cosmetic

Why 5–10% is often used for a complete landscape
Australian building and landscaping guidance commonly refers to 5–10% of the house or property value for landscaping. That higher range becomes realistic when the project includes substantial planting, paving, irrigation, drainage, fencing, retaining walls or several outdoor zones.
The difference is not simply “more plants.” Good preparation, correct levels, durable bases, drainage and appropriate materials are the parts that help the finished landscape perform over time.
