01

Trimming & shaping

Tidy soft growth, define the sides and level the top. Keep a formal hedge crisp or maintain a softer shape that suits the garden.

02

Height & width reductions

Bring an overgrown hedge towards a more manageable size. We consider the plant type, condition and desired finish before agreeing on how far to cut back.

03

Ongoing maintenance

Keep paths, driveways and garden edges looking cared for. Talk with us about maintenance that suits your hedge and property.

Hedges in their surroundings.

Small garden borders, taller screening hedges and long driveway edges—each needs a finish that works with the space around it.

Plan the cut with the regrowth in mind.

A hard cutback can leave a hedge looking very bare, with branches showing until it fills out again. Recovery depends on the plant and its condition. We will discuss suitability and the likely appearance with you before a substantial reduction.

If you want a hedge maintained at fence height, we generally recommend cutting approximately 150 mm below that level initially, where suitable. This gives the new growth room to fill out, ready for later trimming of the softer material.

We also check access and agree whether the cuttings will be removed or left on site.

Before we trim.

Can every hedge be cut back hard?

No. Some plants respond better than others. Plant type, health and the amount being removed affect what is suitable; we will discuss this before proceeding.

Do you look after more than one hedge at a property?

Yes. We consider the whole job, including hedges of different sizes, the finish you want and access around the property.

Do you need to visit before quoting?

Photos and a short video can help us assess the work. We may still need a site visit if the size, condition or access needs a closer look.

What if I don’t know which plants I have?

That is fine. Share an overall photo and a close-up of the leaves so we can help assess the hedge and suitable approach.
