At FNQ Landscapes, we offer weekly and fortnightly garden maintenance. We do not generally offer monthly mowing because it is rarely the best practice for tropical lawns or for the overall presentation of a Cairns property.
Why monthly mowing often produces a poorer result
Grass does not stop growing because the next visit is weeks away. During warm, wet periods in Far North Queensland, a lawn can become long and heavy very quickly. Removing too much of the grass blade in one visit can stress the lawn, expose lower growth and leave an uneven or scalped finish.
Long gaps can also mean more clippings, untidy edges and weeds having more time to establish. The visit becomes a catch-up job instead of planned maintenance, and it can take longer to return the property to the standard the owner expects.
When weekly maintenance makes sense
Weekly visits are often the best choice during the wet season, for fast-growing lawns, highly presented properties or sites that need to look consistently tidy. They can also suit commercial properties, body corporates and daycare centres where presentation, access and safety need regular attention.
- Fast-growing lawns during warm and wet weather
- Properties with large hedges or detailed garden beds
- Commercial and shared spaces requiring consistent presentation
- Owners who want the garden kept at a high standard every week
When fortnightly maintenance works well
Fortnightly care suits many Cairns homes, particularly when the lawn and garden are already under control. It provides enough regular attention to mow at a sensible height, maintain edges, manage weeds and rotate pruning or garden-bed tasks as required.
The ideal frequency can change with the season. A property may benefit from weekly visits during periods of rapid growth and return to fortnightly care when growth slows.
A tailored scope matters as much as timing
Garden maintenance should not be a one-size-fits-all checklist. We discuss what the client wants included or excluded and build a package around the property. This may include mowing, edging, hedge trimming, pruning, weeding, spot-spraying where appropriate, garden-bed care, mulching and green-waste removal.
There is no lock-in contract. Our role is to provide honest advice about the schedule and scope that will give the property the best result, then provide a clear pricing structure for that service.
Garden maintenance across Cairns
FNQ Landscapes services residential properties, commercial sites, body corporates and daycare centres across Cairns and surrounding areas—from Gordonvale to Port Douglas depending on the size and requirements of the job.
We also complete one-off garden clean-ups and can recommend a practical maintenance plan afterwards if you would like to keep the property under control.
